About Mission Nutrition DeForest

Mission Nutrition DeForest, a community-rooted non-profit organization, is wholeheartedly dedicated to providing free food to families and individuals who are in need or food insecure.

Our primary aim is to distribute food and grocery items through community events and meal programs that serve families, children, seniors, and individuals at risk of hunger, ensuring they never go to bed or school hungry. We are deeply committed to enhancing food security among all the people we serve, creating widespread awareness about the issue of hunger in our community, and advocating for policies that safeguard people from hunger.

Mission Nutrition was founded because we identified a pressing need in the Village of DeForest and decided to take action as a united community. Our success thrives on the unwavering support and generosity of volunteers, community members, and businesses who wholeheartedly embrace and uplift our mission. Together, we make a significant impact and forge a stronger, more resilient community.

The Mission Nutrition DeForest pantry was established in the spring of 2020, primarily in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, although not exclusively.  During that period, we were providing food to 250 people per month through drive-through distributions.  The food was obtained at a minimal cost from Second Harvest and was supplemented by contributions from our supportive community and various donors.  Mission Nutrition DeForest is recognized as a 501(c)3 approved organization in Wisconsin.

In the latter part of 2020, Mission Nutrition relocated to its present site within the DeForest Towne Center.

As of November 2023, we have distributed more than 700,000 pounds of food to our community and receive visits from over 400 families every month.

Thanks to partnerships with Second Harvest Foodbank, Community Action Coalitions of Southern Wisconsin, Feeding America, Pick-n-Save DeForest, Kwik Trip Stores, Stop-n-Go Stores, Piggly Wiggly Waterloo, Starbucks DeForest, The Emergency Food Assistance Program, and many generous community members.

We operate as a hybrid model with a drive-thru food distribution open to everyone and indoor choice shopping for our senior residents.
