What to Expect During a Volunteer Shift at Mission Nutrition DeForest

When volunteering at Mission Nutrition DeForest, please be sure to arrive promptly at the designated time to receive instructions. Shift end times can vary between 15-20 minutes, depending on tasks.

​

All volunteer positions require standing and walking, and lifting, bending, twisting, and repetitive movements.

     *Volunteers should be comfortable with tasks that involve walking, bending, lifting, and carrying items, utilizing both arms throughout their duties. Additionally, they should be able to be on thier feet for a hour or more. It's important to note that volunteers will work outdoors, regardless of the weather conditions. This opportunity is best suited for individuals who are physically capable and willing to engage in a variety of activities to support the cause.

All Volunteers must be at least 12 years old, and those between the ages of 12 and 15 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of their shift. For safety reasons, we cannot make exceptions to this policy. 

      * Volunteers age 12-15 must be able follow all safety measures and directions.

​

 All positions require closed-toed footwear.

​

Volunteers must provide their own transportation to and from the pantry.

​

We can verify court-ordered service hours and hours for school or internship programs.

​

For Drive-Thru Distributions-

To ensure everyone's safety, we require all volunteers to wear a yellow reflective safety vest (provided).

​

Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions as volunteers will be working outside for the entire shift. This includes being prepared for working in various weather conditions, including heat, rain, snow, and sub-zero temperatures.

​

For Senior Only Shopping-

Masks are optional while working indoors.

​

Volunteers will be required to assist with carrying or loading items into vehicles for guests, which involves going outside. Therefore, please bring your weather-appropriate clothing.

​

Helping Unload-

Please ensure you wear closed-toed footwear as it is mandatory.

      *Bring workgloves if you want.  

​

Be prepared for a workout, including lifting, bending, and repetitive movements. 

​

Volunteers will help move items both outside and inside the pantry, so please wear weather-appropriate clothing.

​

Please note that most delivery times are approximate and given a window, so there may be a wait before unloading starts. However, there is always work to be done, either while waiting or after the delivery is completed.
